Miam
Next stop: De Smaaknatie. This fantastic shop is owned by Dirk. Next to the food he cooks himself, you can also find great wines and lovely cheeses from Spain and France to eat in or take-away. Absolutely everything looks tasty. That is why I asked him if I could design something for his interior. Excited about the offer, we talked over some possibilities. More on this subject in 2011!

What a day.
The first meeting today was at the Atelier Solarshop. This great little place functions as a platform for artists with different backgrounds. One month they could be a pop-up shop for Bernard Willhelm and the next month a restaurant. This week Pietro and Jan collaborated with Otark. Delicious food was served in a cosy environment. Hopefully soon they will collaborate with me to create a wallpaper for Jan Van Essche's collection. More on this subject soon.

A day at Eijffinger
Today I went to Zoetermeer to visit Charlotte at Eijffinger. This huge company relies on three textile designers for their fabric and wallpaper collections. Charlotte is one of them. In a huge atelier filled with color and fabric samples the three ladies work. From start to finish they are responsible for the design as well as the fabrication and styling of the photo-shoots. My million questions were answered. This was a good day.

Prints
Research is definitely necessary, and lots of it! Today I went to Gent to see Marie Mees and Cathérine Biasino in their beautiful atelier. Very willing to help, the two lovely designers let me come by for a chat. Making prints for many years now it was very interesting to see where they work and how their collections come to life.

Question mark
What will be this year's subject? One I can research for the next few months and then deliver a final product with? I am calling (for now) my master project : 'Le dessin a dessein' (= prints with a meaning). This year I am going to focus on prints used in interior design. The goal is to create an addition to the identity of a space. I am going to design wallpaper, fabric, kitchen-towels, etc for specific clients. These prints will tell their story. If possible I would like to create something you get a little bit more attached to then the IKEA pillow you bought last week to match the rug.

Portfolio 2009
These are parts of the Portfolio-2009. First some posters then sketches and last but not least a typeface design. The alphabet was made out of plaster, each letter was thrown on a cement floor to create a broken uncontrolled typeface.
