Mix all of the ingredients together and cover the dough for a few minutes. Lay out the dough and cut out 1 cm thick cookies. They can be put quit close together on the tray for the oven since they do not get any bigger. For a little bit of shine, brush some honey on top of the cookies.
Enjoy! I sure did.

punta rojo

Named after the red dot.

These are very dry cookies. They are not too sweet and great as a snack.
What you need:

1 lb sugar
1 table spoon baking soda
2 lb flour
1 egg
1 bag of cinnamon powder
milk and salt (mixed in a small bowl)
a little bit of oil
0.5l water

making me hungry

Classic Nicaraguan dish. Rice, beans and tortillas. To plain rice add salt and curry to get extra flavor. To make Marina's famous frijoles dish you need:

red beans
red beans paste
1 onion
6 garlic cloves
1 small green pepper
some curry, pilli pilli, salt and pepper
finely chopped mint
sugar
water

And then for the tortillas!
Cook up some corn and make a paste. Add some water and start making flat circles. To make special tortilla's add:

hot peppers
garlic
onion
and fry them.
Mmmmm

her beautiful daughter

let's fry em' up

Beautiful Marhelia, I could watch you do this all day.

Mix all of the dry ingredients together except for the flour. Add milk and flour little by little and start kneading the dough until it is nicely thick and dry. Leave to rest under a cloth for a little bit. Roll out the dough to 1cm thickness. Let it rest under the cloth once again. Make the circular cookie shapes. We used a plastic bottle cut in half for the outside circle and the bottle cap for the inside circle.

Marhelia's cookies (not for wussies)

For these delicious donut like cookies you will need:

1lb sugar
1 heaped spoon of baking soda
1 butter stick
1 egg
half an orange peel (graded)
a pinch of salt
0.25l of fat milk
114g of sour creme
1 lb of flour (maybe more)

We used a cob oven to bake the cookies. Crispy ginger cookies.

Jackfruit seeds. Boiled and ready to be ground into flour.

jackfruit special

Blistering heat is good for some things! Like drying fruit for example. We used a mixture of surprising spices. A little bit of oil, red pepper spices, crushed pili pili, cinnamon, salt and curry powder are the best combination.

(trick: use oil to clean your hands afterwards)

making chocolate with Johanna

In stead of sugar and milk we used a combination of honey, home-made peanut butter and freshly graded coconut to make the chocolate taste sweet. And sweet it was!

party in the mouth

With so much fruit around how could we not experiment with flavors? My favorite combination was lemon juice, cane sugar, lots of ice, chopped basil and fresh mint.

let's spice things up

It's been a busy busy week! From hanging new wallpaper at Normo to the Pitti Uomo in Florence (with Morrison and The Jante Law) it's been hectic but awesome. We had a lot of sun, some rain, too much air conditioning and a whole lot of pasta. A huge delay on the pictures because we are going analog for a while. But no worries! Plenty of good old Central America pictures to fill the gap. A little recipe of strange deliciousness.
