Great photography book. Rarely seen; graffiti artists being photographed.

Ghent

Off to Ghent! Simon says' is a beautiful little B&B with coffee bar attached. The owner is called... Simon. You couldn't find a nicer place with friendlier people and great vibe then here. We love it.

Het huis van Alijn. Funny project. A call to send family photos taken between 1990-1999 was send out. There is one other criteria; there has to be someone posing with a car. You can see some lovely examples on their website. It also made me think of the 'In almost every picture' book-series from Erik Kessels.

Priem

The famous little wallpaper shop called 'Priem' is located in Ghent. The shop has been there for over 80 years and is run by two adorable sisters (of a certain age). Real wallpaper-professionals. Kitsch, vintage, floral or geometric, they have it all!

We love Ghent

The Rose

The Aphrodite (resembling La Chascona) mythe goes as follow: When she arose from the sea the flakes of foam touching the sand transformed into white roses. Emperor Heliogabalus was known for his lavish parties. A good example to illustrate this is a story that is told about one of his feasts. He closed the doors when all of his guests had arrived to his party and had a huge amount of rose petals fall over the people. A few guests suffocated under the load of petals. ('The Roses', Pierre-Joseph Redoute, Taschen)

A bit of history

Many fossils prove that roses have been existing for over 35 million years! In Egypt rose wreaths were found from the year 170. In greek mythology these were only worn by virgins. Roses were mainly used for perfume, cosmetics, food and parties. They were used for the smell found in the essential oils retracted from the petals and their beautiful romantic appearance. Flower away

Usually a flower is named after the fruit growing out of its plant. Roses are not part of the fruit family so it is exceptional that a plant is named after its flower.

The 5 minute show

Today was a long long day! The handmade paper tiles (that took 4 days to make) were glued to the floor at AIR and left to dry for a few hours. Once dry I took a few pics and cleaned it all up. It was a 5 minute show, but what a great 5 minutes! I was very pleased with the result.
